MOUNTAIN BIKING: Broad River Greenway

← SC NINETYNINE ISLAND RES CHEROKEE FALLS SC Single Tracks →

Description

If you park in the University area it makes a nice trip to the Greenway. Constuction is still going on in the Down town area but weekend traffic is fairly light. The bike lane is clearly marked and for once you can ride without fear of being runover in NC! Once you enter the Park you can go either right or to the newly constucted left section. The first part has a number of pedestrians but soon you will see a break to the left for bike and equestrians. You will definetly need fat tires on the paths because of the loose soil. You will get to cross a rocky stream or two and try not to spook the horses. Facilities are just now being built but the the plus is very few people are on the trails.

Directions

From Charlotte take I-85 South. Once past Gastonia take HWY 74 towards Shelby(Exit 10B). Merge onto US-74W. Head through Shelby and make left turn at DOT sign for Boiling Springs (McBrayer Road) This road later becomes N.Main Street. In downtown Boiling Springs is G.W. University where you can park and ride in to the Greenway on NC-150. This road is being widened with a 3ft bike shoulder on both sides. The entrance is about 3 miles down Hwy 150 to the left just before crossing the Broad River.
